Membership of the British Youth Band Association for 2024 is now open! Join us for our 50th Anniversary year and help us celebrate in style.
Membership of BYBA is open to any marching band, however we do focus on youth bands (aged 25 and under). We love traditional military-inspired marching bands, US-style drum corps, European-style show bands and everything in between - we just love music on the move!
Why Should I Join BYBA?
There are many reasons to join BYBA - away from our leagues and contesting structure, we also try our hardest to help your band grow and develop! Here are a few of our favourite reasons to join:
We run a wide range of training events to help develop your staff, members and band. We enjoy great links with the Army, whose musicians run some of these events. Members get discounted or FREE access to these events.
We usually run an annual "Train the Trainer" event and during the coronavirus pandemic we arranged several online events with some of the top band educators in the UK and beyond.
Advice and Guidance
As an association, we've been around since 1974. That's nearly 50 years of banding and music-making! The collective experience and knowledge contained in our council and members is econd to none and can be of great benefit to you and your band - from getting advice on musical repertoire to help with the day-to-day running of your band!
National and Local Links
Our member bands are split into three regions: Northern, Midlands and Southern. We provide forums for bands to chat and network with each other both within their regions and on a national scale. We also offer an online bandmasters' networking facility.
As well as helping your band to thrive and grow, we also hold a competitive circuit. This consists of a series of shows held across the UK and culminates in our National Championships. We also hold an "Individuals and Ensembles" (I&E) competition around November, which allows members of your band to showcase their talents!
During the coronavirus pandemic we hosted several virtual events, including a virtual I&E event and a Christmas carol contest!
