This Dalton Wright bursary fund was originally launched in memory of the Association’s Founding Secretary, Stanley Wright, to provide financial support for members who wish to follow a musical career or require assistance with a particular music related project.
In 2015 year Orin Willis and Simi Gill took advantage of the Bursary help fund their amazing Drum Corps International experience, here's what they had to say...
Dear DWBF Administrators
Both Simi and I are ever so grateful for the donation we each received from the Dalton Wright Bursary Fund prior to our Drum Corps International experience.
This money helped us immensely towards raising funds for our tour fees for Coastal Surge Drum and Bugle Corps in 2015.
We have had an incredible experience this summer, even with the unfortunate disbanding of Coastal Surge at the end of July. Although we could not complete our season with Coastal Surge, we had the fantastic opportunity to serve as alternates at Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, meaning we had the opportunity to march for both an Open Class corps and a World Class corps in one summer!
Both of us will cherish the memories made and the skills learnt for a lifetime from both corps, with the opportunity to pass our knowledge onto aspiring musicians and dancers at our own drum corps, We are already teaching new warm ups and introducing new ways of rehearsing!
Thank you again for supporting us on our amazing summer adventure, which has inspired us to push to get back out to the states next summer to compete in DCI once again.
All the best
Orin Willis and Simi Gill
