Meet the Council: Gary Roylance

Welcome to our series of Meet The Council articles. Throughout these entries we will try to give you a chance to get to know the people working behind the scenes at BYBA.

This week we are meeting the BYBA Judging Chair, Gary Roylance. Gary started performing with a CLCGB band in 1985 before moving into drum corps in 1985. He is currently brass banding with Ashton Under Lyne brass band, who recently placed 1st at the North West Regional Brass Band Championships and gained promotion to the Championship section.

We sat down with Gary to ask him a few questions:

What instrument do you play? Tuba

What is the first show you marched in? CLCGB nationals at Bingley Hall in 1986

Proudest banding accomplishment? Marching DCA finals

Most embarrassing banding moment? That's for me to know!

If you could talk to your younger self when they started banding, what advice would you give them? Don’t give up!

What is one surprising fact about you? I’m learning to fly (a plane obviously!)

If you could invite any 5 people (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would you invite? Peter Cook, Liam Neeson, Kenneth Williams, Sir Alex Ferguson and my dad

What are you most looking forward to over the next season? Being there!!

Check back next week, when we will be meeting another member of the BYBA Council!
