WARWICK CORPS OF DRUMS
Statement from the Corps Director
RIP Ron Everett
It is never easy having to say goodbye to friends and colleagues, on this occasion it is even more difficult as saying goodbye is something I never dreamed I would have to do to this kind hearted, friendly and to be honest my guide and adviser for the last 7 years.
Ron worked with hundreds of youngsters during his days as Commanding Officer here at Warwick Corps of Drums, known to many as Warwick Girls or Ron’s Girls. In it’s hey day the band boasted 100 members and seem to take on the world as it marched and competed across the UK and many other countries. Winning competition after competition, but I told it was also fun to be part of it all.
Ron and his supporters took on the running of the Westend Centre back in 1982 and added various rooms as they went on. Ron has been very supportive of the refurbishment programme we started a couple of years ago and looked forward to the 40th Anniversary celebrations that were planned for June this year.
The programme will go ahead as planned as Ron would have wanted this to, we now have a determination to make this anniversary a celebration of Ron’s life in the Band.
We will all miss Ron, his laugh, his wisdom, and his vast knowledge of Banding he gained over the many years.
At this time, we are also thinking about his wife Jackie and family and all of his “Girls”.
Ron, you will be so missed by everyone you worked, trained, taught and were friends with over the years, thank you for touching so many life’s and leaving a legacy that you can be proud of. We will do our upmost to carry on your life’s work.
