In a time where COVID-19 has changed the world as we know it, there are thousands of key workers who have continued to carry out essential duties, providing care and support for those in need. After almost a year, and with restrictions likely to continue for some time, BYBA would like to acknowledge the vital role undertaken by key workers.
We are calling upon the UK marching band fraternity and beyond to join us in a virtual, massed band performance of "Song for the Frontline". This piece has been composed by Foden's solo trombone, John Barber, and raised thousands of pounds for the NHS. There are parts for brass and wind instruments as well as drum kit and shaker parts.
We are also inviting bands to submit images of key workers from within their memberships. We'd like to intersperse these images into the final video performance as our way of giving heartfelt thanks to every individual who has served their community in the best way they can.
Mark Wilkinson (Principal Cornet of Foden's Band) has recorded this short video about the Song for the Frontline and also gives some of his tips for improving your playing during a lockdown:
Video submissions are due by 11th April (one week after Easter Sunday).
